Thought for today Welcome I want to be your voice in the House of Representatives in Washington, DC because I believe a lot of voices are not being heard from this District. Change is the buzzword for this election cycle, but it is only a word unless it translates into positive action for you and your interests. I believe we are long overdue for change in this district, and that is my task and your challenge: help me win to represent you. We all have hopes, dreams, and ambitions, but due to the rabid partisanship in Congress, those things are put on hold. This congress is what Harry Truman once called, “A do nothing Congress.” The status quo has failed us, and now it's time for change. Dan Francis

New York State's congressional delegation today numbers 29 seats: 23 DEM and 6 GOP. Three of those 6 GOP seats are being vacated and likely to go DEM in November. That would leave only 3 GOP seats in congress. One of them, the 13th, if you follow the news about Rep. Vito Fossella and his problems, is also in danger, and that leaves only the 3rd, Rep. Pete King, and our own 23rd, John McHugh in a “Red” seat. But, we need to change that, too, and make NYS a 100% blue congressional district state. It can be done with lots of hard work and your help.
Then look at the job approval rating of this Congress; it hovers around twenty percent. That number speaks volumes for the condition of our ship of state: leaderless, rudderless, and adrift on a sea of red ink with its gridlocked, rabid partisan, and divisive ways of serving the public. It is for those reasons and a lack of leadership that motivates me to seek this office.
I reflect back to 1994 when Newt Gingrich led the GOP and they took over the House with that awful “Contract for America.” Ever since then, things have steadily gone down hill. Their contract was broken, promises were not fulfilled, and they let the country down. I believe we can and must do better. During this campaign, I want to prove to you that I can do a better job for you if you give me the opportunity and a fair hearing. With your help and support I can win this seat, and we will make history. I will work my heart out for you, and I hope you will join me. I have some ideas, but I want to hear your concerns.
This is a history-making election year. Some even say it's an electrifying election year. We face two wars going badly with no apparent end in sight; (2) our economy is on the verge of collapse due to wild deficit spending, a record debt due in part to the cost of those two failed wars and foreign debt, recession staring us right in the face, (3) and an arrogant abuse of power by those serving in office that ranges from torture of detainees to illegal domestic spying, massive lies to cover up certain crimes and loss of world prestige. That is not the America I know, nor the country that I have served all my adult life. It is not the country I believe we all want to leave to our grandchildren. If change were ever needed, it would be now.
